» 2008.2009 Merit Badges

The Troop will be offering the Scouts a chance to earn 4 Merit Badges this scouting year.  It is the responsibility of each Scout to complete the requirements and review their work with the Scoutmaster or certified Merit Badge Counselor.  As this is a boy-led troop, we'd like some input as to the Merit Badges which they'd like to complete.  Then, we'll post them here.

This summer we are looking into a bike hike that will cover most of the requirements for bicycling merit badge.  Stay tuned!

Here is a new site that contains Merit Badge Requirements

Summer Camp Checklist

Here are a few things that scouts and parents need to know in preparation of Summer Camp:
  • Sign up to work on a few Merit Badges during Summer Camp.  Do the pre-requisites required before Summer Camp.
  • Scouts need a cot for the tent camping during this week - it gets pretty rough sleeping on the ground all week.  If you can, bring protectors for the cot's feet - Mr Imm uses large coasters made to protect table legs.  That way, you won't sink into the dirt or ruin the cot.
  • Bring all of your gear in a 25 or 35-gallon Rubbermaid-type tub.  It'll work like a trunk and all your stuff will stay dry. see our fliers page for a handy packing list
  • Scouts also need a signed (by a licensed healthcare practitioner) Medical Exam Class 1 and 2 Form.  Mr. Anderson needs these by the June 2nd troop meeting!  see below for link to printable form.
  • Bring a mesh bag for sterlizing pots/pans/dishes
  • Bring $25 for spending cash and also to pay for extra merit badge supply fees.
  • Tell Mr. Anderson about any dietary restrictions the scout may have.
  • Bring your own lunch and drink on Sunday to eat after arriving at Camp.
  • Wear Class B uniform when driving to camp on Sunday.  The scouts will change into their Class A uniform once they arrive at camp.
  • Place medication and instructions in a ziplock bag; give to Mr. Anderson on Sunday morning; he will supervise administration of any medicine.
  • Remember, parents can send postcards/letters to the scouts while they're at camp; use their name, Troop 309, Seven Ranges Scout Reservation, 7070 Meter Road NE, Kensington, OH 44427

Interested in Scouting?

“Be Prepared" is the Scout motto. Be prepared for loads of adventures in the great outdoors – hiking, camping, canoeing, rock climbing, spelunking, the list goes on and on! There are plenty of skills for you to master, and you can teach other scouts in your troop what you have learned. Scouting promises you opportunities to work toward the Eagle Scout rank. You will set positive goals for yourself and then follow clear routes to achieve them. The deeds you perform will improve your life and the lives of those around you!! The troop meets every week and plans adventures for, at least, 1 weekend per month.

Troop Meeting Day!!

Our meeting days are every Tuesday!  Our first meeting of the year is the first Tuesday of September.  Our last meeting of the year is the second Tuesday of June.  Check the calendar for occasional cancellations.

Younger than 11? Join Cub Scouts Pack 309!
Cub Scouts are members of a Den, a group of 4 to 8 boys in the same grade. Den meetings are twice a month and include games, crafts, hikes, outings and lots of fun. Once a month, Dens come together for a Pack meeting, a family inclusive activity that involves entertainment, campouts, and ceremonies. The Cub Scout advancement plan allows boys to work at their own pace. With the Cub Scout motto, "Do Your Best," every boy is a winner. No one sits on the bench - everyone plays! Pack meetings are the 3rd Wednesday of every month at Garfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Feel free to contact Cubmaster Chip Steiner (cps3@adelphia.net) if you have any questions!

Troop Songs
Closing Song:
Softly falls the light of day, as our meeting fades away.
Silently each Scout should ask, have I done my daily tasks?
Have I kept my honor bright? Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and have I dared, everything to be prepared?

Philmont Grace:
For food, for raiment.
For life, for opportunity.
For friendship and fellowship
We thank thee O Lord
